Hybrid Publishing vs. Collaborative Publishing: What’s the Difference?
You may see the term “hybrid publishing” used across the publishing industry. At GracePoint, we call our model collaborative publishing — because it’s a true partnership between author and publisher, not just a transaction.
Here’s how the terms relate:
- Traditional publishing. The publisher invests in the book and pays the author royalties. The publisher typically holds rights for the life of copyright.
- Self-publishing. The author manages and funds the entire process alone — writing, editing, design, distribution, and marketing.
- Hybrid / collaborative publishing. Author and publisher invest together. The author gets professional editing, design, and full trade distribution, while staying closely involved in the process. GracePoint stays vested in the book’s success over the life of the contract — marketing, promotion, and ongoing opportunities — rather than handing off a finished file and walking away.
