Description

Every day, America loses Veterans to suicide.

Fight Oar Die was born from a simple, audacious idea:

Put four Veterans in a rowboat, point them across the Atlantic Ocean, and prove—publicly, painfully, gloriously-that people are capable of far more than they believe.

They wanted to inspire other Veterans to challenge themselves, to do hard things, and to ask for help.

Getting to the Starting Line is the inside story of the small, all-volunteer nonprofit that sent four all-Veteran teams into the World’s Toughest Row. It’s the story of the years of fundraising, training, setbacks, and sacrifice behind every single stroke-and of the men who came home changed. It’s the story of a beloved boat called Woobie and her return after three years lost at sea.

Told in the honest, funny, and vulnerable voices of the rowers and those closest to them, this book is not really about rowing; it’s about doing hard things. It’s about what is found in the silence and isolation that rowing an ocean provides.

Staying in the harbor is safe.

This is what happens when you don’t.
