Karen
Hi, everyone, welcome to the GracePoint Publishing podcast. I’m Karen Curry Parker. And I’m here today interviewing one of our brand new authors Evelyn Levenson, author of the book, The Empowered Projector, I just want to say this is a very personal and exciting interview. For me, Evelyn was actually one of my very, very, very first human design students from back in the day when I was I was mailing information out on a thumb drive. Yes, you were trying to do mp3 player, I still have mine a long time ago. So for those of you who don’t have the privilege, and the honor of knowing Evelyn, Evelyn is a projector, and she is a professor, who I think is pretty committed to rewriting a lot of the mythology of what is a projector, in human design. In traditional human design, when we talk about projectors, they are the type who are here to manage and guide and direct others. And they have to wait for invitations and recognition. And they’re not here to work in the traditional way that we think of is working. And oftentimes that whole dynamic of waiting now working and needing to have people see you before you can talk and speak and be heard, gets translated into a pretty disempowering narrative. So talk to us, Evelyn, what is true about that, and what is not true about that narrative?
Evelyn
Those are great questions. Well, it is true that as projectors, we need to wait, ideally, to wait for invitations and especially recognition. But the image that we have to like sit on our hands and do nothing but wait and wait for things to fall in our lap. That is very disempowering to so many of us projectors. And it is so vital that we take our power and move forward in ways that are correct for us, but that don’t disempower us and keep us quiet and waiting in the wings when there’s so much that we can be doing as we move forward. I think a lot of the challenge in the materials, or at least the way they’re interpreted in human design is that projectors feel like they have to wait for invitations for everything. And that’s so not true. It really is just for the big things in life, the major life impacting choices like marriage, and career, and even specific jobs and where you live. But other than that we don’t need Invitations to do our laundry and go grocery shopping and get the things done of life. And if we are waiting for invitation, so those things that really gets in our way.
Karen
Here’s the question I have, because I hear that too. All the time. I hear people saying, well, I’m waiting for the invitation for everything. And you talked about laundry and some of the more mundane things, but what about the things that you get to do that are fun, can’t projectors have fun while they’re waiting?
Evelyn
Absolutely. Not only can we have fun, but I think we need to have fun, because it’s when we have a higher level of vibration that we are more attractive energetically. And being attractive is what brings us the recognition and invitations that facilitate our being able to make things happen in the world. And there’s such a myth about projectors not being able to initiate or make things happen. And we don’t initiate in the ways that manifester is doing we don’t make things happen in the way that generators manifesting generators do. But we can manifest and initiate we just need to do it in our own way. After we have had some recognition and invitations and we step into the ones that feel good and correct, we can take all the action we need. That’s a real myth that we have to keep waiting for an invitation A great example is former President Obama as a projector once he was invited into that position of being President, he didn’t need to wait for further invitations for every step he needed to take within that responsibility.
Karen
That would have been complicated.
Evelyn
It wouldn’t have served him or us very well. So I think that’s a good example of once you’re in correctly, once you’ve entered correctly, then you can take all the action you need.
Karen
So tell us a little bit about projectors and burnout. That seems to be the theme that I hear projectors talking about and experiencing in quite significantly impairing ways.
Evelyn
Yes, yes, that’s a huge issue. And I think so much of it comes from projectors comparing ourselves to others and using others as a guidepost and feeling like well, I need to be able Do it the way that person does it for I need to be able to follow this guru or this business coach who tells me how to do this and what to do. And so much of that just doesn’t work for projectors, we don’t have very many good role models of how to do it in the projector way. When we find ourselves in burnout, we need to find those things that restore energy, and stop doing the things that are burning us out. And I have an entire chapter in the book about burnout, because it’s so important. I also have another chapter about bitterness, because that’s another big issue as well.
Karen
That was gonna be my next question. So human design teaches us that each type has an emotional theme, and they’re not exciting. They’re like anger, frustration and bitterness. Nobody likes them. And of course, as you said, the emotional theme for the projector is bitterness. Why bitterness? What does that mean? What if you’re a bitter projector? What do you need to do?
Evelyn
Well, first, it usually starts from a feeling of it’s not fair. Whatever is going on, it’s like, oh, that’s not fair. That is harder for me than for other people. That’s not fair that I just tried to help that person achieve that my head on. And then from not fair, it’s fair to slips into this, what I call slippery slope of going down into full bitterness. And that is a really tough place to come out of what we need to do is come out of it a little bit at a time. Abraham Hicks describes it so beautifully, taking baby steps up the emotional scale. And that’s a great image to keep, it’s like, you’re not going to get from way down at the bottom all the way up to the top and one step, you need to inch your way up. But as soon as you recognize that you’re feeling bitter, it’s so important to focus on what is working, and where you are getting recognition and where you are getting invitations, and to stop comparing ourselves to others. That’s a huge issue that so many people run into, and in the comparing that we try to keep up with the energy types, the generators and manifesting generators, and even the manifest errs. And when we’re trying to do that we’re out of our own alignment. And that’s where we run into trouble, especially with the burnout, and also the bitterness.
Karen
What if you love a projector and they’re really bitter? What advice would you give someone if they were in love with a bitter projector?
Evelyn
They should read my book. Obviously, it’s a complicated question. And I really do cover that pretty thoroughly. In the book, helping the projector feel recognized and seen and heard, will go so far to helping the projector relax and feel like the world isn’t stacked against them all the time. Projectors often feel never heard and never seen and never valued. And when you can ask the projectors for their opinion, or their advice, or their input or their guidance, it changes everything for the projector. Now, if they’re steeped in bitterness, it may take a while to get out of that. It doesn’t always leave immediately. But when they can start to feel a little more empowered, and a little more recognized and a little more valued. That valuing will help them value themselves. I think a lot of the bitterness comes from devaluing ourselves because we feel not valued by others. And we tend to use others as our metric for how do we value ourselves. And one of the things I emphasize strongly in the book is to value yourself for yourself, not based on whether you’re getting invitations or recognitions or not.
Karen
I have a 12 year old, almost 13 year old projector daughter, who is the first projector kid I’ve raised since birth, and all my other kids are generators and manifesting generators. It’s been very fun to watch the natural unfolding of the projector in my own house, and to see how innate so much of the nature of the projector is in how they are I joke, she’s my living lab. I also joke but it’s not actually funny that she runs the household. She is by far the source of all the wisdom in the house. And my husband and I have long learned to know that if we don’t know what to do, just ask our daughter. But one of the things she talks about and actually she ranted about yesterday. She said I hate being a projector. She says that a lot. She said, I wake up every morning with so many ideas. And by 11 o’clock after I’ve only tried one of them. I’m tired. And so it’s just no I can’t do anything for the rest of the day. So that is not the first time I’ve heard that. Can you speak into that? And what do you do if you have so many ideas and you’re a projector and you don’t know how to get the energy to do them all? That is the million dollar question.
Evelyn
There are no easy answers to that. A part of it is pacing yourself and identifying what the highest priorities so that you’re really focused on the most important things and a lot of it too is getting help and asking for help. When you need it, and not in a begging Oh, woe is me, I’m weak, but getting people to cooperate with you and support you in your ideas. And I happen to know your daughter’s chart a little bit. And she’s a very powerful projector. She is one of the things that’s so interesting about projectors is there’s such a wide variety of us, there’s a lot of variety there. And not all projectors function in the same way. When you love what you do, it also provides energy. And one of the advantages of waiting for an invitation for something is that it brings energy, it brings resources, it brings support for stepping into and fulfilling whatever that invitation is.
Karen
For sure, I also want to talk about something else that you have brought up a lot over the years. And I think it’s a difficult conversation sometimes to have one of the things you talk about is the shame of the projector and healing the shame. Why do projectors have shame,
Evelyn
I think that comes from the comparisons comes from seeing the other types, not knowing, of course, that there are other types of seeing other people be successful and have energy. If I didn’t know that I was a projector and you’re a manifesting generator, and I’ve been following you and taking classes from you or working with you for so many years, I would be constantly feeling like I’m worthless compared to what you’re capable of doing and what you do on a daily basis. Just reading about what you do makes me exhausted. But what I’ve learned is I need to do it my own way, I need to do things that work for me, and not try to be you and not try to function like you. And I think when we can stop comparing ourselves and seeking that validation from outside of us, and really tune into our own sense of value, and trust our own sense of value in the world, then we’re not operating from that needing it from outside. When we need it from outside, then we try to do whatever we need to do to fulfill the expectations and the standards set by others. And that’s where we get so exhausted and so bitter.
Karen
Alright, one last topic. One more really juicy topic. Actually, there’s several more, but we’ll talk about this one. What about projectors and money,
Evelyn
that can be a tough nut to crack because generators and manifesting generators are 70% of the population, they kind of set the standards and set the rules. And they work in ways that we can’t as projectors, so we need to find ways to work and to be part of the existing environment in ways that don’t exhaust us. And that don’t wipe us out completely. And that means being creative in how we function and being creative and honoring our own energy. And knowing when to say enough when to say I need a break when to say this isn’t working for me, I need to do this differently. That is huge. And finding ways that fulfill your natural abilities. I think so often we feel like being successful has to be hard. But that’s where we get the rewards we get the pat on the back is like oh, I worked really hard on that. And that’s and when things come easily, we don’t value them as much. But what I say to all my projectors is easy is good, go where it’s easy, do what’s easy, do what feels natural for you, and find ways to have that be valued by others. And it starts with us valuing ourselves. When we discount what we do, it’s like oh, well, okay, that just comes so easily. To me that can’t be valuable. Like no, that’s actually really valuable because it’s easy. So we can do it consistently. And then when we value it, then we indicate to others that it is valuable.
Karen
What advice would you give, let’s say if you have somebody who’s just newly discovered, hey, I’m a projector, I’m also really bitter. I’m also really tired and burned out. And I really need money, but I don’t have the energy for it, or I just have a little tiny bit of energy left. What would you tell a projector under those circumstances?
Evelyn
That’s tough. Do whatever you can do whatever little bits you can and try as much as possible to leverage your energy as projectors, we have innate wisdom about how people can do things better. We’re really designed for that guidance, not for the actual doing. So the more you can be in a role of guiding and directing others rather than doing the work yourself that will alleviate some of that exhaustion from the doing energy in
Karen
your fantasy life. When you imagine the perfect world everybody fulfilling their right place their right space doing the right work. How do you see the role of the projector what does the world look like for projectors? The world
Evelyn
look like projectors being Being honored and recognized and invited and respected for their natural capabilities, and not having to work really hard to make a living, you know, I have this fantasy that there’s this projector fund. That projectors can access when they need it, so that they don’t have to work for a living in the traditional way that others have to work for a living. And there’s a higher level here as well. That projectors are really here to help guide and bring into form the new evolution of human consciousness. And I really believe that we are on the forefront of that, that we’re here to provide guidance and shaping of that evolution. And when we can be not exhausted and not worried about money and functioning at our highest energy levels, then we can provide that guidance that is so useful and so vital, actually, for now. We’re all part of this, and it’s happening without us. But I think we can play a very crucial role to help shape it and bring it into form in a way that serves the greatest good.
Karen
Yeah, thank you. So your new book, becoming an empowered projector, becoming an empowered projector, you can get her book in Kindle format or eBook format and paperback you can get it on any big online retail outlet, including Amazon, Barnes and Noble and probably target very soon. Oh, nice. Go run and get Evelyn’s book, I want to tell people get it even if you’re not a projector. Or even if you don’t have a projector in your life that you know of that you love, you know, a projector you just don’t know, you know, a projector everybody knows a projector and learning how to recognize oftentimes these sort of hidden gems that are standing on the edges of things just waiting to tell you with all that wisdom, what you need to do is essential, you don’t know until you actually allow yourself to be guided by an empowered projector, how your life can be transformed how that person can tell you how to look at 20% of your life and leverage it to get 80% more results. That’s not Brain Stuff. That’s just nature. That is the nature of the Empowered projector is that they know and they know and they don’t even know how they know, it’s their job to know and they will tell you. And I think if we can really allow ourselves to drop into a collaborative relationship with all of the different types, and particularly the projector, a lot of the challenges that we’re facing today on this planet could get fixed, I think pretty darn fast.
Evelyn
I’m always amazed at how people will learn more about themselves. As they begin to learn about projectors. Yes, because in the book, I also talk about how we all fit together in the roles that we each play and how we impact each other. Even if you’re not a projector or have a close one, you’ll probably learn a lot about the world and how it works as well as about yourself. Even if it’s just in contrast, it’s like oh, okay, I function differently than that. And just that clarity can help other types as well.
Karen
Absolutely. You can also learn more about Evelyn and her work at her website, human design for success.com. She’s got all kinds of great articles and blog posts there all kinds of information about projectors and more. So go check out Evelyn site and get her book, get her book today. Evelyn
Thank you. I’m thrilled to have been the vessel through which it came. It really felt like the outline for it just plopped out fully formed.
Karen
I love it. Awesome.
